Powers of Attorney, Notarial and Consular Matters

To manage a legal, commercial or administrative matter in Turkey from abroad, a properly prepared power of attorney and appropriately authenticated documentation may often be required. UZT Consultancy provides clear and practical guidance on powers of attorney, notarial and consular formalities, apostille requirements and document coordination.

The required wording of a power of attorney depends on the transaction. Litigation, enforcement, property, company, inheritance, banking and official-authority matters may each require different powers and supporting information. For this reason, the intended use and the relevant institution should be identified before the document is prepared.

Preparing a Power of Attorney

It is important that a power of attorney contains clear and sufficient authority for the proposed transaction. In particular, the authority required for property transfers, company shares, inheritance, litigation and enforcement can vary according to the circumstances. An incomplete or unsuitable document can delay the process or require a new document to be prepared.

Notarial, Consular and Apostille Formalities

Whether a document issued outside Turkey requires an apostille, consular authentication or a properly prepared translation will depend on the country in which it was issued and the nature of the document. The procedure for documents prepared through a Turkish consulate may differ from the procedure for documents prepared before a foreign notary.

We help identify the certification and translation steps at the outset. Any official translation or notarial certification required is carried out separately through an authorised translator or the relevant institution.

Representation in Turkey for Clients Abroad

With a properly prepared power of attorney, many legal and administrative matters in Turkey can be handled through a representative. This may reduce the need to travel to Turkey for each step.

If you need a power of attorney or another official document for use in Turkey, please contact us to discuss the purpose of the transaction and the country in which you are based.
